Lviv - A World Class City

Lviv_big_view

Lviv (Lvov), the city of Lions, is one of the world’s hidden jewels.   Founded in 1256, the city is rich in both culture and history – celebrating its 750th birthday in 2006.  For decades, the beauty of Lviv had been hidden from the western world.  That all changed on August 24, 1991 when Ukraine proclaimed its independence from the former Soviet Union.  Slowly, people from around the world began to rediscover Ukraine and specifically Lviv.  More than half of all of Ukraine’s historical landmarks are located in Lviv.

This rich history did not go unnoticed.  In 1998, UNESCO (U.N.) listed Lviv as a “World Heritage Site”.  In its urban fabric and its architecture, Lviv is an outstanding example of the fusion of the architectural and artistic traditions of Eastern Europe with those of Italy and Germany. It’s no wonder that in 2009, Focus Magazine named Lviv the “Best Ukrainian City to Live”.  Today, Lviv is the largest cultural, intellectual and economic center in Western Ukraine.

In early 2012, Lviv was named in the top 10 European cities of the future, according to research by the Financial Times newspaper. In particular, Lviv has been noted as having the best strategy to attract foreign investment and efficiency in business.
